Welcome to fuseleeds09, Leeds contemporary music festival that continues to blaze a trail of imaginative new commissions and surprising collaborations that celebrate today's vibrant new music scene. With over 30 events taking place at venues across the city, join us as established names and new talents take to the stage.
Reflecting the festivals new partnership with Opera North through Dare, we celebrate song and voice in its widest sense from the indie cult classics of The Wedding Present resounding to new arrangements for the BBC Big Band, to one of the UKs finest traditional singers Eliza Carthy collaborating with Ed Harcourt. Exaudi span six centuries from Machaut to Cage and Phil Minton encourages you to take a vocal leap and be part of his Feral Choir.
We turn closer to home to focus on the output of the Leeds-based Leaf Label with performances and commissions by Efterklang - who give the UK premiere of their epic arrangement of Parades with the Britten Sinfonia on the festivals opening night plus A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Colleen and Nancy Elizabeth.
Featuring exclusive premieres and inclusive participation - and as music, film, the visual arts and even architecture embark together on new creative ventures - fuseleeds is a celebration of new music as youve never heard it before.
